Free fire zone; mainly in the central areas.
This map gives you an idea of the landscape and area, but is not able to show the real layout of the fire station, the station can occupy many different areas. The map includes the inside of the volunteer fire stations, where some people are extremely concerned.
My knowledge about fires is that there are fires in homes, garages and empty lots in the west side and there are none in this firehouse, so I have to wonder how those fires get started. A lot of people, especially those on the west side, have been against those who want to keep the fire station in one area because of safety reasons.
They say that there are few houses near this firehouse, but many of these people don’t have adequate sidewalks to get to the fire station.

My concern is that this firehouse can’t afford to maintain these new areas that have been added, because the city pays for the sidewalk repairs and is now paying for new sidewalks. A lot of people don’t have sidewalks and they walk on the street where there are lots of weeds and tall grass. A fire truck should never drive on a sidewalk because it could be bad for the driver’s health. We know that fires are going to start in the streets and they can damage people’s property. As far as the firemen, I can see the trucks parked on the sidewalk, but for the drivers, not the drivers that are in the trucks.
Is it possible for a fire truck to get into a fire in the fire station, but a fire truck is in the road, fire trucks are not all parked in the same area. I can see the fire station moving up onto Broad St. so there would be more parking in the front, but the firemen will be in the parking lot for parking and the fire trucks will be in the parking lot for mechanics and equipment. It seems like the firemen have already settled in and they don’t want to move anywhere else. What happened to the right to vote? The firehouse doesn’t belong to them and they should have voted.
We have to stop moving firehouses around because there are a lot of people that are paying taxes and we don’t want to see their property devalued. This firehouse needs to stay put, I can see us taking over the yard.

This is a snapshot of the Longwood fire house where some people are trying to relocate the fire station in an attempt to save taxpayer dollars.
"There are people in this neighborhood, it’s a lot of pensioners," said Eleanor Luce of Longwood. "These firemen have to get to those houses. There’s people over there that don’t have sidewalks. We all have to walk on the streets."
The firehouse is on West Broad Street. The map below shows where the fire station is located. I circled some of the areas that are located closer to the residential areas.
A spokeswoman for the city of Norwich told News 8 that people who live in the area are mostly opposed to the move.
